Yummy Pineapple Dip

September 1, 2011 By Karen Ficarelli

This dip is elegant enough for a garden party and easy enough to make for a quick snack. It’s great with pita chips, as a finger sandwich spread, on top of a salad or just eaten as a side dish with any meal. Dress it up or down, it’s a fun dish no matter how you enjoy it.

½ cup low fat plain or vanilla yogurt
½ cup pineapple, cut-up
2 Tbsp non-fat mayo
½ tsp nutmeg

Directions:

1. In a glass bowl, combine all ingredients.
2. Chill for an hour or longer.
3. Serve it up in an island-themed dish, such as a coconut shell, decorative seashell dish or glass bowl.

Health Benefits:
Low in saturated fat, low in cholesterol, low in calories and low in sodium, this dip is nutrient rich and tasty. Pineapple is high in Vitamin C, B1, manganese, fiber and contains bromelain, believed to provide anti-inflammatory properties and promote healthy digestion. Yogurt provides healthy bacteria that keep your digestive system healthy. Nutmeg is excellent for destroying unhealthy bacteria in the mouth, primarily the cause of decay and gum disease. A natural relaxant, nutmeg provides heart benefits, helps to alleviate stomach ailments and has been shown to inhibit an enzyme in the brain that contributes to Alzheimer’s Disease.

The Biggest Hurtle to Dieting Is Convincing The Mind

August 29, 2011 By Karen Ficarelli

Your brain is the caveat of success. No matter what your goal, if you want to increase your wealth or shrink your waist, your brain is the power source that will get the job done.

But sometimes the brain needs to be convinced that this is truly what you want. You’ve heard the old saying, “Old habits die hard.” That’s because once the brain has familiarized itself with a certain behavior it paves a pathway so that it no longer has to think about doing that particular deed. Your brain forms the habit so that the action can be performed with very little brainpower involved. In other words, your brain is a little bit lazy.

So, how do you instruct your brain to think about what you want and keep it from concentrating on things you would rather forget?

Daily prayer and meditation can help redirect your mind. Once your spirit has been lifted, take your commitment one step further. Begin writing down your affirmations and follow those with your goals. Now your brain has something new and positive to dwell on.

Feed your brain with interesting data, lots of positive encouragement and active participation in your weight loss program. The more you stimulate your brain with this information, the more focus you will be able to direct on your diet and weight loss program.

But you might find that you still slip up and resort to old habits. The brain is tough, so you’ve got to step up your game in order to win the battle. A sure-fire way to keep your brain on track is to keep a fitness journal of everything you eat and drink and all the activities that you participate in each day.

You see, by writing down everything you eat and drink, you become accountable for all the foods that you are feeding your body. It’s important that you record everything because this way you will be able to decide which foods you can keep in your diet and what changes you need to make.

Remember, it takes at least thirty days to make or break a habit. Do you have some habits that you would like to leave behind? This can be day one as you re-train your brain to take on healthy habits and begin a new healthy routine.

What Does It Take To Keep You Motivated For Women’s Fitness?

August 24, 2011 By Karen Ficarelli

Some women are so enthralled in their fitness program that they are motivated simply by their accomplishments. They work out regularly and seem to have no reservations about sticking to a healthy diet. Other women require motivation every day in order to continue their women’s fitness program. Identifying your needs is the first step to determining how much motivation you need to meet your goals.

Setting goals is a motivator in and of itself. When we set goals for any part of our lives, we are giving our brains precise instructions as to what it needs to do to make us happy. Convincing the brain that this is something we really want is a primary force in keeping us motivated. Without the stimulation from the brain, it becomes too easy to shove our fitness goals into a corner when met with any type of conflict. We often give way to responsibilities and tasks and treat fitness as if it’s just a fun activity that holds no merit.

However, women’s fitness is one of the best ways to provide the body and mind with the stability and strength it needs to accomplish everyday tasks. A fit and healthy body means you have more stamina to get all the other things done during the day.

Finding what motivates you is the secret to your success. Some women are motivated by the support of friends and family, while others find the personal aspect of a fitness journal to be the best motivator. Certainly feeling healthier and more attuned to your own body is a great motivator to keep you involved in your exercise and diet plan.

Fitness4Her is a diet, exercise and journal, developed exclusively for women. Along with this trilogy of fitness tools, Fitness4Her offers support in the way of articles, blogs, exercise routines, recipes and helpful tips and reviews on all sorts of fitness products. It’s a great way to stay in shape and connect with other women who have found the many motivating benefits of a women’s fitness program.

Form A Habit With Your Fitness Journal

August 22, 2011 By Karen Ficarelli

Diet, exercise and journaling are the three main components to the Fitness4Her women’s fitness program. Each of these plays a major part in helping women look and feel their very best. The good news is that women’s fitness is easily attainable and all it takes is learning to make a habit out of good choices and healthy behaviors.

You may have heard of journaling, or even tried it to some degree, but maybe you just couldn’t get into it. Maybe you have trouble thinking of what to write and can’t see the benefit of spending time writing when you could be doing something much more fun. If those are some of the things keeping you from journaling, you probably have never done it for any prolonged length of time. But did you know that successful Journaling could be as simple as just forming a habit?

Most women have habits, both good and bad. Habits are easily formed when the same behavior is repeated over and over. The brain begins to form an easy pattern for the behavior and after a short while it seems natural to repeat the actions. The habit of journaling is easy to form and what makes it so great is that journaling frees your mind for other tasks at hand.

When you learn how to make journaling a part of your life, you will liberate your mind to think new thoughts and generate new ideas. Once you release it from the confines of the same old thoughts bouncing around in your head, you give your brain the power to move forward. As you read your thoughts and goals on paper, you will begin to think of what you want next, how you will bring your goals to reality, and look forward to charting your achievements.

Maintaining a fitness journal will help you to successfully lose weight and get in shape. If you will write down everything you eat and drink, and all of the exercises that you do and how much time you spend doing them, you will be successful in your women’s fitness program.

Set the goal, believe it, and achieve it. Sound too easy? Journaling will help you bring it to reality. Of course you will need to make changes in your diet, you will need to exercise at least 30 minutes each day, you will need rest and rejuvenation time for your body and the journal will keep you focused on these goals.
