Finding Inspiration in Others Victory

June 16, 2012 By Karen Ficarelli

I watched her as she ran down the court. She was tall and slender with long muscular legs, the perfect shape for the girl’s basketball team. This high school student had no problem hanging onto the ball even with the other team’s most aggressive forward trying to take it away from her. As she passed the guard she leapt in the air and went for the shot. The ball sailed through the air and went straight through the hoop, nothing but net. It was a sight to see.

It wasn’t until after the game that I noticed her left arm. It looked small and withered compared to her right arm. She carried it close to her body as she hoisted her bag up with her other arm. I marveled at the skill with which she played her sport. She had scored the majority of the points in the game. Later when I inquired about the young girl, I learned that she had been voted “Most Athletic” in her senior class.

Later, I was told that she spent hours perfecting her game. She ran track and participated in other sports all throughout the year and gave each one her very best. The girl was adamant that what one woman could do, another could too, and that meant her. She truly believed that she could succeed in anything she sat out to do, and so she could.

I was inspired by this athlete’s ability even before I realized that she was doing with one hand what many people were reluctant to do with two. Seeing her commitment to excel made me want to take my skills up a notch.

When I see others achieve greatness, especially in the face of adversity, I have to take a hard look at myself. Am I reaching for the next level? When was the last time that I really challenged my skills? Opportunities have a way of presenting themselves to you, but you have to know how to recognize them. Mine came when I witnessed this athlete’s drive and determination. The opportunity to improve my own game and never settle for less.

The Secret Ingredient To A Healthy Lifestyle

May 4, 2012 By Karen Ficarelli

The path to a fit and healthy body is not only achievable; it’s much easier than you can imagine. But it requires a secret ingredient that is such a critical component that without it, you will fail time and time again.

Perhaps you’ve tried diets and exercise before, only to find that they just didn’t work for you. Frustrated with this sense of failure, you may have given up and quit. Left with feelings of regret, you might even dread the thought of starting another program for fear that you will never succeed.

It’s time to throw off those feelings of defeat and embrace the winning spirit within you. If you are visiting this site and reading this blog, that’s proof positive that you have the desire to make a change in your life. That’s the way success begins…one little spark of curiosity, one thought, one idea and the desire to make it happen.

Are you feeling that spark today? Is there a slow fire burning inside you that’s begging you to make a change in your life? Are you ready to transform the way you look and feel?

It requires a commitment from you. That’s the secret ingredient to achieving your fit and healthy body. Making a promise to yourself and vowing to keep it, focusing on that commitment everyday will make your journey to success an easy one.

Now, I’m not discounting the challenges of exercising and staying on a diet. I know that this is easier for some people and more difficult for others. But I have also witnessed determined people lose 30 pounds while others who were less committed struggled to lose 10 pounds in the same length of time. That is the power of this secret tool.

To help boost your level of commitment, start each day with affirmations of praise and appreciation for all that you have achieved. Speak positive words of encouragement and keep a journal of everything you eat, drink, and all of your daily activities. Make a list of your goals and allow yourself time to meditate on them. You will come away feeling refreshed and ready to take your life to a new level.

January 4, 2012 By Karen Ficarelli

Inspiration is the first step towards greatness. The next step is learning how to harness that inspiring power in order to succeed. How do you capture the essence that is inspiration and turn it into a tool for success? First of all, you must really want to succeed, without that desire, the inspiration will die off before you even have a chance to try it out.

It you have ever harnessed a horse; you know that you must be in control or the animal will have his way with you. That is because he outweighs you by hundreds of pounds and if you let him go, you may not be able to encourage him to come back. The same proves true for harnessing your inspiration. It is much bigger than you can even imagine and if you let it go, you might run the risk of having it desert you forever.

Does Your Family Inspire You To Succeed?

November 30, 2011 By Karen Ficarelli

Many times we rely on our family members to keep us grounded or inspire us to succeed. Our spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, children or extended family can be the best sources of inspiration, standing on the sidelines, cheering us on. However, in some cases they can become the nay-sayers, the ones who discourage us before we even begin.

When the latter is the case, when your loved ones stand in the way of your fitness program, communication can be your ultimate weapon to diffuse their negative vibes. Because fitness is so important to your overall health and your family is an essential part of your life, get to the bottom of their negativity and find out why they are against your efforts for success.

It could be that they think you are spending too much time at the gym or are working too hard. First off, make sure that you are taking care of your obligations like caring for your children and going to work. Assure them that you are aware of your responsibilities and that fitness will help to make you stronger physically, mentally and spiritually so that you can handle all of your obligations not only today but also well into the future.

If their concerns are of a more personal aspect, like they fear you are growing apart from them, it may be time to invite them to share in your workout efforts. Ask them to take long walks with you, play a sport with you or visit the gym the next time that you go. Even if they don’t take you up on it, your gesture of inviting them will go a long way to getting them on board to support your efforts.

Mustering the motivation to stick to a fitness program is not easy. You will find that you need constant support and much of that support can be found within your own family. The more you share your enthusiasm for fitness with them, the more likely they will stand behind your efforts for fitness success.
