Ready, Set, Get Motivated

March 10, 2021 By Karen Ficarelli

If you are looking for ways to get motivated to start your diet or exercise program, you have come to the right place. Losing weight and training your body are two things that may be hard in the beginning but with effort and commitment, they will get easier.

Your current skill level is not important. What is important is that you make the decision to get started living a healthier lifestyle and that includes your diet and exercise. Think about how much stronger, slimmer, firmer and more energetic you will be. It’s all in your control, if you take the first step.

Invest in some good shoes, pull on some comfortable clothes, grab your towel, mat and water bottle and get ready to exercise. You don’t have to go a gym or pay a personal trainer, although both are great ways to stay in shape. You can work out daily in your own living room or even outdoors. The important thing is to not let anything stand in your way.

Change your eating habits gradually, by adding lots of vegetables to every meal. Vegetables are high in vitamins and nutrients and contain little to no fat. Munching on vegetables wards off hunger. Carrots are very low in calories and they are crunchy and portable, making them a good choice for a healthy snack that won’t spike your sugar levels.

Constantly look for positive ways to amplify your fitness goals. Go online and do some research on healthy foods and recipes, read product labels and be smart in your choices for snacks and other meals. Ingredients matter, so pay attention to added sugars and sodium.

Find fun activities that not only burn calories and fat but also keep your mind challenged. Research has shown the more engaged your brain and body are in an activity the least likely you will binge on unhealthy foods. Be mindful or everything you eat.

Journaling is a great motivational tool that will help you stay motivated. Writing down everything you eat and drink and all of your exercise and activities will keep you accountable and inspire you to work steadily towards your goals.

Writing Your Way To A New You

April 15, 2020 By Karen Ficarelli

Starting a fitness journal is one of the best tools you can have to ensure success. If you are serious about your workout and are interested in losing weight and getting fit, I have the secret to help you slim down and shape up permanently. Journaling is the single most easiest activity to add to your diet and workout plan, and one of the most powerful tools to guarantee success.

You probably already know that it has been proven time and again that people who keep a fitness journal have a far greater chance at losing weight and keeping it off than those who do not. Journaling is one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable for all your food and beverage consumption and your fitness level.

In order to get the most benefit from your fitness journal you must be honest with everything you write down. Make an entry for each day and record everything you eat and drink. Once you get over the shock of how much you really are eating, you can begin to track your exercise and physical activities that you do each day.

Keeping a journal will open your eyes and your mind to what is working for you and what is not. You will be able to better understand your food cravings and chart your day on when you might be the hungriest. This can help you to plan your meal times to better suit your hunger needs. You may need to eat a bigger breakfast but a smaller lunch, or maybe a medium sized lunch and smaller dinner are more suitable to your body. Controlling portion size is very important when you are learning to manage your weight so be sure to write down how much you are eating. Measure or weigh your portions until you get used to eye-balling the amount. You might be surprised at what you thought was a ½ cup.

I find that actually writing with paper and pen work best for me, but you may find that your mobile device or computer are better for storing your data. There is something very personal about actually writing that keeps me accountable but if your online journal works for you, by all means continue with anything you are comfortable with.

Journaling provides a written account of your daily consumption and your fitness level. It’s helpful to look back over your entries and see how far you have come. Especially, at times when you feel like your body isn’t changing but you feel like you are sacrificing and not eating the foods you like. Sometimes, it feels like it is all for nothing. When those times come, sit down, open your journal and compare the early entries with what you are doing now.

Your fitness journal is your confidant and fitness buddy to help you lose weight and get in shape. Be honest, be open, but don’t judge yourself to harshly. Each day is a new day, so start writing and stay focused on your fitness goal. Before you know it you will be writing your way to a new, slimmer, healthier you.

Journaling: A Simple Solution To Losing Weight

May 24, 2016 By Karen Ficarelli

If you are having problems losing weight and getting in shape, I have a simple solution that has worked time and time again. Keeping a fitness journal is a low-cost way to lose weight because all it takes is a journal that you can write in and a pen to write it all down. Of course you can use a computer or smart phone but the simple act of writing by hand is powerfully motivating and will help you to focus on the goals.

The very act of journaling sends a positive signal to your brain and lets it know that changes are going to take place. Of course your brain is not fond of change. As a matter of fact it prefers the same old, same old. The brain loves a good habit. Habits are easy to follow, don’t expend much energy and just feel comfortable. But habits can make us fat and lazy and when you make up your mind to make positive, healthy changes like losing weight and getting in shape, you’ve got to rewire the brain to replace old nasty habits with healthy, positive ones.

Journaling goes back thousands of years. Writing down goals as a way of achievement has been a successful endeavor for many people, no matter how hard the challenge. Maintaining your journal is easy to do, it just takes commitment. However, if you are committed to losing weight, then you are already halfway there.

A fitness journal is like having an inspiring fitness buddy that you can take with you wherever you go. It is a great way to stay on top of your diet but it also helps to challenge your fitness level. If your workouts are getting boring, you can make new goals and choose new exercises that will work different areas of your body.

You can purchase a journal with pages that can be removed or added or you can just use a composition notebook. In this digital age, you may prefer to use your phone or computer to record what you eat and your fitness achievements. I prefer the old school method of actually taking pen to paper and writing. I enjoy writing and the act of journaling both soothes and energizes me in so many ways.

The wonderful thing about writing down your goals, is reading them later and reflecting on how much hard work, commitment and dedication it takes to achieve the goals that you set for yourself. Begin journaling today and find out how simple it is to lose weight using this timeless method.
