Old Diet Habits Die Hard

April 21, 2015 By Karen Ficarelli

If you are holding onto old diet habits and not getting new results, it may be time to let go of those old ways of doing the same old thing. One diet habit that resurrects itself time and again is the act of skipping meals. Successful diets are designed to help you eat regularly and healthfully for the rest of your life. Simply skipping meals is a poor plan for getting the body that you desire.

Another old habit is when women reduce their caloric intake so severely that you they are literally starving. These old diet habits will lead to weight gain and health problems in the long run, so steer clear of these crazy methods. Fad diets that limit your food won’t work if you are always hungry.

When you want to lose weight, you have to make the decision to change your old habits. Changing old habits can be difficult. Your brain is responsible for the habits that you keep. Like an old comfortable blanket, your habits are an easy way for your brain to function. Your brain likes to be lazy. It enjoys the path of no resistance. When it is called upon to fight the temptations of old habits, the brain has to really do some work.

The brain can be trained. You can refocus your brain to send the right messages to fight off the temptations of old habits. Daily affirmations will instruct your brain of your daily goals. A fitness journal will provide the creative outlet and accountability that your mind needs to stay focused. Support from like-minded women who are interested in women’s fitness and living healthy. Surrounding yourself with positive influences and motivating people. Don’t let someone else’s negativity define your attitude. Overcome their negative diatribe and remain motivated.

Old diet habits are hard to break but not impossible. The same mind tactics that I describe here will also work for other unhealthy habits that you may be harboring. If you want to stop smoking, overeating, or over-spending, you can train your brain to break these unhealthy habits so you can live happy. It’s all about mind, body and spirit. You are a whole person and every aspect of your life can be enriched with a healthy mind. Learn to harness the power within your mind and lose old diet habits along with the excess weight.

How to Make Goals That Work for You

September 8, 2014 By Karen Ficarelli

Have you set any goals for yourself lately? Do you believe that your goals are attainable? If you’re wishing to drop twenty pounds, do you have a plan to reduce your weight? Do you know what it takes to lose those twenty pounds? You may need to change your diet and increase your activity level. Are you ready and willing to commit to those changes?

Your mind is the vehicle that drives your goals to attainability. You see, your brain must be able to figure out a logical path to succeed, or it will begin to believe that the task is impossible. Once that occurs, you may find yourself losing motivation and giving up.

Are you committed to your goal? How badly do you want to lose weight? How badly do you want to get fit? How badly do you want to change your body’s shape? If you really want it; if you are willing to make that commitment; you may be astounded at how easy it becomes to reach your goal.

When you are really committed to your goal, when there is no turning back, success is within your reach. It may seem as if it has come upon you like magic, but it is your own dedication, your own willingness to make sacrifices, that gives you this ability to meet and exceed your goals.

If your goal is to lose twenty pounds, begin by writing this down in a journal. Keeping a fitness journal is one of the best ways to ensure successful weight loss. Write down your current weight and write down everything you eat and drink each day. Figure out how many calories you need to cut down on and rather than counting calories, begin to reduce the amount of food that you are eating. Examine the type of food you are eating, too.

Design an exercise program that keeps you moving at least 6 days of the week. Regular exercise will help your body burn calories even when it is at rest.

Your mind needs constant reinforcement that it is accomplishing great tasks. Keeping a positive, winning attitude is vital to achieving success. Instead of concentrating on what you haven’t done, or what you can’t do, spend time each day, thinking of all of the things you have accomplished. By the time you get through listing these, your mind will be so super-charged it will be hard for it to get discouraged.

Five Fabulous Fitness Tips To Motivate Your Workout

April 30, 2014 By Karen Ficarelli

Motivation, the word itself gives the impression of movement, yet one of the greatest areas in need of motivation is exercise itself. It seems so many other things are more important or just more fun. Many of us need a little motivation to keep us interested in exercising and make our workout a bit more fun.

So, whether you need help getting started, or need a little help staying motivated, I hope these tips will help you as much as they have helped me.

1. Write down all of the benefits of exercising. You know, like a healthy heart, stronger lungs, and increased flexibility. Be specific, the more you write, the more you will be convinced of the benefits. Write down all the reasons you want to be healthy, too.

2. Keep a daily journal. You would be surprised at how much inspirational motivation you can get from maintaining a journal. Write down everything you eat, drink and how much exercise you do. Write down any new exercises that you want to try. Write down how much time you spend on each activity.

3. Exercise first thing in the morning. If you go out for a 30-minute walk in the morning, then you have the rest of the day for your other responsibilities. Any additional activities or exercises you do later in the day will be an added bonus to your fitness program.

4. Find a friend to exercise with. It might be time to enlist a like-minded person to help you stay motivated. Between co-workers, neighbors, family or friends—there is sure to be somebody you know who would enjoy your company and make exercise more fun.

5. Train for a local 5k or even 3k run/walk in your community. Sign up for it and then commit yourself to training. See if you can get your exercise buddy to join you. These events build self-confidence and motivation. But be warned, these competitions can be addictive. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself signing up for the next run and talking your buddy into signing up, too.

You have probably got many tips that keep you motivated, just think about all the many reasons you want to get fit. Exercise is the key to strengthening your body, maintaining flexibility and enhancing your lifestyle.

Stay strong and stay motivated.

Motivational Moments In An Otherwise Crazy Schedule

May 15, 2013 By Karen Ficarelli

Most days I stay busy from sun up to sun down. It’s not that I like to have such a crazy schedule, but there are so many things I want and feel the need to do each day that it’s hard to take it easy. I confess, I do take a restful day usually on Sunday, to enjoy time with family and friends because I believe one day of rest is needed to recharge and refresh. All throughout my busy days however, I find motivational moments that inspire and encourage me along the way.

Motivational moments are those tiny gusts of motivation that hit you for a minute and if you aren’t quick enough to grasp them they are gone like tiny sands in the wind. These tidbits of motivation come from various sources. I may look out the window and spot a butterfly moving from flower to flower, or see one neighbor helping another. I may watch a football game and feel motivated from the team spirit or listen to a heartfelt story of someone’s struggles that emulate my own challenges.

These motivational moments are not unique to my world and my life. Each and every one of us is blessed by these occurrences every day. It is how we use these occurrences that determine whether or not we are taking advantage of the motivational moments in our lives.

Motivational moments or any type of motivation is the key to sticking with your diet and exercise program. As a women’s fitness trainer, I have seen so many women who start out motivated to lose weight and they stay that way for about the first 30 to 45 days. During that time, they are full of enthusiasm and usually proud of the weight they are losing. However, around the 7th week or close to the 45-day period, the weight loss hits a plateau and they become discouraged because they aren’t experiencing the same euphoric success they felt in the beginning. These women are literally starving for some motivation to keep them going and when they don’t find it, many give up and return to a sedentary lifestyle.

Although I try to head off these low points and offer lots of encouragement to the women I work with, I know how hard it is to stay motivated in the face of low to no results. Women start to feel as if they are exercising more than ever and eating less than ever but still not achieving the weight loss goal that they have set for themselves. The good news is that if you switch to a healthy diet and combine that with an active lifestyle, you will do much more than drop a dress size. Every part of your body will benefit from these healthy changes.

Your motivational moments can turn into a motivated and purposeful life. Once you harness the power of self-motivation, you can be a motivational guru to those around you. People looking for motivation will see the enthusiasm that you have for life and will want to achieve the confidence and improved self-esteem that is apparent in everything that you do.
