Beating The Weight Loss Obsession

October 19, 2022 By Karen Ficarelli

When it comes to women’s fitness, you must learn to break free of your weight loss obsession and learn to love the body you have. If you have spent the majority of your teen and adult years occupied with losing weight, it might be time to try something different. Give yourself a break and know that right now, this very minute, you are perfect, just the way you are.

Losing weight is not the answer. While it may be necessary for you to lose weight to improve your health; it’s the journey to a healthier you that is the solution. Every step you take, every choice you make brings you closer to or pushes you further from your ultimate goal. But like any journey, it’s the unexpected experiences that keep us engaged and make the entire trip a memorable one.

Keep a fitness journal and write down everything you eat and drink every single day. Don’t skip days, no matter what you have eaten, write everything down in your journal. Resist the urge to chastise yourself when recording your daily intake; as this will only discourage you from being truthful. The journal is your personal record, share it if you like, but it belongs solely to you. It is your own personal way of helping you to understand yourself, your eating habits and your daily exercise.

Eat clean. Consume at least 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Refrain from added sugars, salt and processed foods. Don’t deprive yourself of foods you like. Indulge regularly in a fruit smoothie or frozen fruit bar that you make yourself. There are many delicious recipes that are definitely worth trying.

Analyze why you feel you need to lose weight. Try concentrating on building a stronger body through a well balanced diet and daily exercise, instead. If you are not already working out regularly, adding regular exercise will help you to lose weight and help your body to metabolize your calories more effectively for your body.

The key to beating your weight loss obsession is to recognize that your body is uniquely yours. Get to know it and learn to love it and it will respond in kind. Your body is a special gift from God, treasure it, nurture it, challenge it and you will be delightfully surprised at how wonderful you look and feel.

The Body Changing Effects of Cross Fit

June 19, 2019 By Karen Ficarelli

Cross fit is an exercise program that combines strength training and cardio workouts in a fast paced, ever changing series of exercise moves. The exercises are always different so as to confuse the muscle groups and make them work harder. Each day the workout tests a different part of your functional strength with the goal of building a body that is highly capable to meet any challenge.

Crossfit is the training that is used for police and military, too. However, one noticeable thing about Crossfit is the ease of modification to suit your own fitness level. Crossfit has been described as a challenging workout in an encouraging and accepting environment. Your workout is based on your abilities; you are not competing with anyone else in the room. However, the vibe of the workout is enough of a challenge to make you want to improve each and every time you attend. As you become stronger, you will be able to do all exercises without having to modify any of them.

Many women become almost addicted to their Crossfit training classes. They begin to feel like something is missing if they don’t attend their Crossfit class. Along with a healthy dose of endorphins released into the body, strong feelings of accomplishment and happiness abound from regular workouts. The satisfaction that comes from these achievements is overwhelming. Women feel so confident that they never want to give up on their Crossfit training. Even though the addiction is only in jest, Crossfit is certainly a healthy habit to have.

Crossfit is for anyone who wants to take their fitness workout to the next level. Even beginners will find that Crossfit is an exceptional program to learn to do exercises correctly in order to achieve the best results. Since the exercises change everyday, you will notice changes in your body quicker than with most workouts.

Crossfit is a very supportive program, too. The trainers provide encouragement as well as the other members in the class. It has a real community atmosphere where everyone is connected by their desire to change their bodies for the better.

You can find a Crossfit class near you. Many of these workout programs have sprung up all over cities. They look different from a regular gym. You won’t find treadmills or elliptical machines, there are no Zumba classes or weight machines. The most important aspect that you want to look for in a Crossfit class is a good instructor or coach. Read reviews, ask coworkers for recommendations and interview the coaches before you sign on. A good coach can make all the difference and can help you change your body by making it stronger and more beautiful.

It Takes A Winning Attitude

November 22, 2017 By Karen Ficarelli

The Olympics is a great reminder that it takes a winning attitude to see your dreams fulfilled. To be truly successful at anything, you must first believe that you can and that is a winning attitude. Of course, practice and ability must be present, but these attributes lose their power if deep inside, you don’t think you can succeed.

If you want to lose weight, if you want to change your body’s shape, if you want to get toned and fit, you must start out believing that you can. No matter how many times you have tried, no matter how many times you have succeeded only to plateau or backslide, you must believe that this time you will be successful. That’s the kind of attitude it takes to be successful and I believe that you can do it.

Belief is such a powerful tool. It is the fire that propels a winning attitude. Believe that you can succeed, convince yourself that losing is not an option. Believe that winning is something that will follow you throughout life. No matter what challenges you are faced with, no matter how many things get you down, you were born to be exceptional and you have that winning attitude.

Harness that spirit when you make the decision to change your diet. Eat foods that sustain you, foods that enhance your beauty and foods that satisfy your appetite. Gradually make the necessary changes you need to design the body you desire. It takes a winning attitude to change your diet.

The young athletes at the Olympics are so inspiring; I love watching them. They train so hard for so long, and they are totally committed to winning. It makes me want to train harder, try new sports or new workouts and really challenge my body to go to the next level.

Losing weight and getting in shape are very important. Equally important is your happiness. Remember, you are more than just a number on a scale. You are a beautiful woman with a heart full of love. Don’t keep that love hidden away; be sure to share it with your lover, your family, friends and acquaintances. A winning attitude encompasses every part of your life. Seize that attitude and expose the winner in you.

Is Your Caffeine Addiction Robbing You of Sleep?

June 5, 2013 By Karen Ficarelli

For an effective women’s fitness program, every girl needs to get plenty of sleep. Rest and relaxation are crucial to overall health and the lack of sleep can actually prevent you from losing weight. If you are drinking too much caffeine throughout the day or especially close to bedtime, your coffee, power drink or soda may be the culprit that is robbing you of sleep.

Although, experts consider moderate caffeine intake to be safe, if you aren’t getting the rest you need, it may be time to cut back on some of the caffeinated foods and beverages that you ingest. Caffeine blocks the sleep-inducing chemicals in the brain and increases adrenaline production. It’s interesting to note, that caffeine has no nutritional value for the body, and therefore is not necessary for optimum health.

Now, I am not saying that you have to give up your morning cup of Joe, but if you are loading that cup of coffee up with cream and sugar, you could be ingesting a whole lot more calories than you imagine. I suggest a fitness journal as the best way to monitor what you eat and drink. Not only for weight loss but also for tracking fat, sodium, cholesterol, sugar and even caffeine.

Most women need at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. If you feel groggy and fatigued during the day, perhaps it is a lack of sleep that is keeping you from feeling your very best. Apart from caffeine in the diet, lack of exercise can keep you from getting enough rest. Exercise increases circulation and will actually help to promote sleep, as long as you finish exercising at least 3 hours before retiring to bed.

Just remember that a good night’s sleep is essential for women’s fitness and will add significant benefits to your overall health. When we rest, we allow our bodies to build new cells and repair existing ones, we give our minds time to process information and encourage emotional balance. Reasons enough to make sure you are getting the rest you need.

Long Lean and Alive – The Benefits Of Staying Fit

May 22, 2013 By Karen Ficarelli

What is so great about women’s fitness and why is it so important to stay fit? Not only will maintaining fitness keep your weight down and give you a long, lean body, it also plays a major part in keeping your body healthy and alive. It has been proven time and again that regular exercise, a sensible and nutrient rich diet and an active lifestyle are important factors in keeping your body working to its maximum potential.

Simple tasks such as bending to pick up a child or reaching for a book on a shelf can be potentially harmful and can result in injury when our fitness is compromised. Delicate muscles, especially those in the back and neck can be injured easily when they are not exercised and strengthened regularly. Once injured, it takes a muscle even longer to reach a healthy fitness level. That’s just one of the many benefits of staying fit through a women’s fitness program.

Staying alive is probably one of the most vital benefits of maintaining your fitness. While nothing guarantees our longevity, it has been proven that a fit and active lifestyle does make a big contribution towards it. Your heart is strengthened through cardiovascular exercise and these exercises also burn calories to help you lose weight. Building your cardiovascular strength means it will be much easier to complete every day tasks without fatigue as well as those unusual times when you may need extra strength to accomplish a new challenge. For instance, if you have to chase down a taxi, it will be much easier if your heart and legs are accustomed to running short sprints.

Keeping your body in shape with resistance exercises will probably mean less chance of injury when you perform a task that your body isn’t accustomed to. Staying agile through exercises such as yoga or Pilates, is also a great way to keep your body long and lean. Each exercise works various muscle groups, to lengthen and strengthen your muscles, organs and improve your health to make you healthier mentally, physically and spiritually.

Having a long, lean body is an achievement many women only dream about. The truth is, no matter what your body type or level of fitness, you can make improvements and increase your overall fitness ability. Set goals for yourself, write them down and make a solid plan to achieve them. Don’t allow anyone or anything to stand in the way of your women’s fitness program.
